Why Functional Movement?

Have you ever heard of the “zoo human syndrome?” It’s where society conditions us to believe that chronic pain, immobility, depression and lack of vitality are normal and unavoidable in our lifetime.


This is simply untrue, and is a concept I want to debunk.


Chronic pain, immobility, depression and lack of vitality are very common, however, they are not the end-all-be-all. Take it from someone who used to suffer from insomnia, extreme food sensitivities, high anxiety, and many other issues. I was constantly worrying about someone or something else, and my health and wellness was never a priority.


What if I told you there was a way to decrease or even eliminate that chronic pain and gain more mobility? How about even overcoming your depression or lowering your anxiety?


Through functional movement and medicine, I’ve been transformed from a burned-out and unavailable mother, wife, and friend, to a happier, healthier, more present individual. The combination of my 20+ years of yoga along with my new found love of functional movement has equipped me with the exercise and movement my body needs, as well as given me the mindfulness and drive to pursue healthier eating.


That’s why we at Soul of Medicine love MovNat, a physical education & fitness system based on the full range of natural human movement abilities, and are so excited to be offering MovNat classes at The Loft studio!


MovNat helps utilize your environment to rebuild your range of motion and regain your agility. You can practice it at home, outdoors, at work, or anyplace else that fits into your everyday routine. Keeping your body moving and active is what helps you to rebuild muscle, rediscover flexibility, and restore the healthiest version of you.

By utilizing my knowledge and experience of yoga and implementing the strength building and agility practices of MovNat, I have noticed a significant difference in my body’s capabilities. From enhancing my athletic ability to providing me with a comprehensive fitness program which includes fitness, mindfulness, nutrition and supplementation, natural movement has helped me discover my weaknesses and target those areas to strengthen them.


Not only do I get to have fun and appreciate my environment while practicing natural movements; I get to do my day-to-day activities and no longer struggle with stiffness, limited range of motion, or unnecessary aches and pains.
